Outline of Annual Research Achievements

東部インド洋湧昇域における総合的な観測の一環として、インドネシア技術評価応用庁の研究船 Baruna Jaya I および Baruna Jaya IV を用いて、スマトラ島・ジャワ島沖観測およびインドネシア多島海西部の観測を実施した。
研究船 Baruna Jaya I を用いた航海では、スマトラ島南西沖の係留ブイの回収と南東部インド洋の係留ブイの入れ替えを行うと共に、Java島の西端沖で岸に直交する測線上の12測点で水温・塩分計および吊下式音響ドップラー流速計による観測を行った。係留ブイデータからは観測航海の時期が史上最大規模の正のダイポールイベント成熟期であった事が示された。Java島沖では南東風が卓越しており、船舶観測により沿岸湧昇の詳細な構造を捉えることに成功した。
また、研究船 Baruna Jaya Ⅳ を利用して、インドネシア多島海西部のビトゥンからマカッサルまでを結ぶ測線上に設定した観測点29点において深海乱流計による乱流直接観測を行い、同多島海域における乱流混合の定量的な把握を行った。さらに投下式水温・塩分計および吊下式音響ドップラー流速計による観測結果も合わせて解析することで、インドネシア通過流の水塊特性が鉛直乱流混合によって変成していく実態を明らかにした。
さらに、2018年度の「白鳳丸」KH-18-6航海で取得したデータの解析も進め、東部インド洋熱帯・亜熱帯域の酸素および栄養塩環境の特性を明らかにした。また、貧栄養にもかかわらず植物プランクトン生物量が増加している海域の存在を明らかにした。さらに、この海域において植物プランクトンの成長率が低いことを示し、海洋物理機構による栄養塩供給の時空間的変動との関連性を明らかにした。

Reason

2019年度の最も重要な研究活動は、インドネシア技術評価応用庁の研究船「Baruna Jaya I」「Baruna Jaya IV」を用いて東部インド洋およびインドネシア多島海の観測航海を実施し、湧昇域や鉛直混合の活発な海域のデータを取得することである。これらのデータは、前年度に行なった「白鳳丸」による観測航海で得たデータを補強するものとなる。これらの観測を予定通り実施し、取得したデータの解析を開始することができた。また、前年度に行なった「白鳳丸（KH-18-6, KH-19-2）」による観測航海で得たデータやサンプルの分析、解析も計画通り進めている。一方、2020年度に予定されていた「白鳳丸」による観測航海が、新型コロナウィルス感染症の影響により中止となったため、代替手段の検討などの対応が必要となった。
これらのことから、若干計画の修正が必要ではあるが、おおむね順調に進展しているものと判断される。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

東部インド洋での白鳳丸による次の航海が2020年度に予定されていたが、新型コロナウィルス感染症の影響により中止となった。引き続き、インドネシア側の研究船等を用いた追加観測の可能性を模索すると同時に、これまでに得られた観測データやサンプルの分析と解析を進める。特に、東部インド洋における広域観測結果、インドネシア南岸の湧昇域観測結果、およびインドネシア多島海の鉛直混合過程などに着目し、海洋物理・生物地球化学・生態学的特性の統合的な理解を進める。また、国際協力の下で進められているインド洋域の研究プロジェクトの一環として協力し、貢献する。
