Outline of Final Research Achievements

We assessed active muscle stiffness with the stretch reflex according to changes (in 110 ms period after stretching) in muscle force and fascicle length during slower angular velocity (100 deg/s). Using this technique, we observed that active muscle stiffness with and without stretch reflex did not change after 10-min of static stretching, which decreased stretch reflex. Furthermore, joint stiffness and active muscle stiffness with and without stretch reflex significantly decreased after repeated hopping exercises, whereas tendon stiffness did not. Furthermore, the relative change in joint stiffness was significantly correlated with that in active muscle stiffness with stretch reflex, but not with those in the other measured variables.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
