Outline of Annual Research Achievements

We have been unable to finish the fieldwork due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic which has disrupted travel and the ability to do work in Uganda and Japan. After two years of postponement we therefore leave funds unspent. Despite this, in the first years of the project we were able to run original and pathbreaking experiments into information processing within households. We have learnt that married couples process information less efficiently than pairs of strangers. We also learnt that spouses trust information from their partners and therefore will follow 'bad' advice as well as good advice. Women listen to advice more than the men. The results help to build a more realistic theory of the household, in which fairness, trust and autonomy are as important as efficiency and power.
