Outline of Annual Research Achievements

エスチュアリーの堆積モデルは、その多くが現在世界に分布しているエスチュアリーを根拠として形成されている。しかし、土砂供給量の大きな河川は、エスチュアリーからデルタに移行しているため、土砂供給量の少ない河川からしか、これらの情報が含まれていない。大河川河口部における堆積作用は、エスチュアリーのモデル構築から重要であるばかりでなく、近年は河川海洋遷移帯の堆積環境の視点からも注目をあびている。本研究では、大河川河口部における地形と堆積物の調査から、エスチュアリーの堆積相モデルの構築を行い、地層やボーリングデータからの解析に資することを目指している。
平成29年度は、プロジェクトの初年度にあたり、これまでに行なってきた関連する研究データをとりまとめるとともに、メコンデルタの内陸部における自然堤防、オーバーバンク堆積物の堆積相調査を実施し、研究２年目におけるベトナムにおける本調査の準備を行なった。これらの解析の結果、メコンデルタの河川海洋遷移帯の最上流部であるカンボジアにおいて自然堤防の堆積相モデルの構築を行い、国際学術誌から公表した(Journal of the Geological Society)。また、潮汐卓越型の環境においては、河川海洋遷移帯において、潮汐卓越トラクトが河口から上流に向かって分布し、この区間が潮汐卓越環境を特徴付けること、また河川モデルが適用できないことを示し、カナダおよびアメリカで開催された国際学会で発表した。

Reason

既存の情報の収集と解析、筆者らのグループで取得してきたデータの解析、初年度の現地調査、次年度以降の調査の準備、これらんすべて順調に進捗している。海外との共同研究においても、現地調査を行ったカンボジア、鉱物資源総局、２年目に調査を予定しているベトナム科学技術院ホーチミン市資源地理研究所との連携も順調にすすんでいる。また関連するテーマで、米国や中国の研究者との情報交換、共著論文なども、順調に進捗している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

研究計画の２年目は、ベトナムのおいて本格的な現地調査を実施する予定で、メコンデルタの北側のドンナイ川における河川地形、水深、塩分、堆積物の調査を乾季に実施し、河道が放棄され埋積が進行しているメコンデルタのベンチェー地域でボーリング調査により堆積物と堆積相の調査を2018-2019の乾季に実施予定である。これらの調査は、ベトナム科学技術院ホーチミン市資源地理研究所との共同研究として実施の予定である。主たる調査は、２年目に実施し、３－４年目にとりまとめを行う予定となっている。これらの成果は、逐次国際学術誌に投稿するとともに関連する国際学会で発表を行う。
