Outline of Annual Research Achievements

磁性ナノ粒子の磁気緩和(磁化の配向過程)は、癌温熱治療(ハイパーサーミア)における発熱量や磁気粒子イメージング(画像診断)における感度・分解能を決定する現象である。「細胞内や血液中での磁性ナノ粒子の磁気緩和機構を解明するための測定手法を確立すること」を研究目的としている。低強度・低周波数磁界で高発熱を示す磁性ナノ粒子の構造や粒径、凝集状態等の形態を明らかにするとともに、実用化レベルの画像診断性能に求められる磁性ナノ粒子の磁気特性及び印加磁界の条件を提示する。
平成30年度は、体内での磁性ナノ粒子の磁気的な振る舞いを解明した。体内の多様な環境下での磁性ナノ粒子の磁気特性を粘度を変化させた溶媒中に分散する磁性ナノ粒子サンプル、また固体中に分散固定させた磁性ナノ粒子サンプル、さらには固定させる過程において磁場を印加し、粒子の磁化容易軸を配向させたサンプル等を用いて、これらの磁気緩和機構の相異を明らかにした。特に先導的な研究成果として以下の2件が得られた。
1)ネール緩和に加え、ブラウン緩和も寄与する液中試料のほうが、固体試料よりも発熱量が高いと実験的にも理論的にも理解されてきた。しかしながら磁化容易軸を固定配向させた試料において液中試料よりも発熱量が高いという実験結果を初めて示した。磁気異方性の寄与を解明したことに加え、ハイパーサーミアの報告例としても最大の発熱量が得られた。
2)従来の交流磁場励磁下の定常状態における磁性ナノ粒子の磁化ダイナミクスの測定、解析のみならず、パルス磁場を印加した際の過渡状態の磁気モーメントと粒子(磁化容易軸)の挙動を測定することに成功した。

Reason

磁性ナノ粒子を配向固定させた試料において液中試料を超える発熱量が得られるという、これまでの実験・理論では予想されていなかった結果を得た。また従来の交流磁場印加下での定常状態ではなく、パルス磁場印加時の磁気モーメントと粒子(磁化容易軸)の過渡的な振る舞いを初めて実測で明瞭に示した。これらは当初計画以上の研究項目を実施できたためであるため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

磁性ナノ粒子の磁化ダイナミクスとしてブラウン緩和並びにネール緩和の実効的な挙動を理解するという当初目的は達成されつつあるので、ハイパーサーミアや磁気粒子イメージングなどの医療応用にどのように活用するかを次年度に明確に示す。
