Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
When this research project was launched, after completing Community Malaria study, we planned to finish implementing the study related to the prevention of communicable viral infection by the end of the academic year 2019 in two phases: (1) Community-based HIV/AIDS surveys, (2) epidemiology study in HIV voluntary counceling and testing (VCT) and (2) Hospital-based surveys and training on Prevention of communicable viral infections.
Now, we have completed HIV/AIDS surveys in communities and the epidemiologic HIV study in VCT centers. We are planing to start the hospital-based survey, which is the last phase of our 3-year research project.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
As we already completed both the first phase (Community Malaria study) and the second phase (Community HIV/AIDS study), we are now preparing to start the last phase which is going to be implemented among health care providers in two main steps:(1) step1: Occupational Health Safety surveys (June - September 2019). - it will consist of surveys on the adherance to 'Universal Precautions' for prevention of occupational blood-borne viral infections, with the collaboration of local university-based researchers and government agencies' representatives (ministry of health research units) and NPO.(2) 'Capacity building' of Health care providers (September 2019 - January2020). - Training sessions will be organized in hospitals with the collaboration of the hospital directors, by specialists in the field of Occupational Safety and Health. In addition, posters displaying 'Safe Medical Procedures and Preventive Measures' will be distributed to different units of participating hospitals. They will be displayed in each units where risky medical procedures are performed in order to increase awareness among health professionals.
