Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As a result of this funding, I was able to visit archives and libraries in five cities: Cambridge (USA), London, Leipzig, Zurich and Grasse to complete research for my projects on the history of the modern perfume industry. I took a total of around 13000 photos of documents, comprising archival materials, trade journals and books, in four languages, English, French, German and Russian. I also presented at an international meeting in Philadelphia, USA in 2017. I hope to submit at least one article for publication within the next month and continue to work on a book proposal.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I was able to visit all the archives and libraries I initially planned for the first year and obtain a high volume of research material, but there are three changes to the plan. There was more material than expected in Leipzig and Zurich, so I hope to return or hire a research assistant. Secondly, I have not yet used resources in Philadelphia, which I hope to do this year. Thirdly, I did not have a chance to conduct oral interviews in Europe and the US, which I am now planning and hope to complete this year as well.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I plan to revisit Europe and conduct oral interviews with perfume industry experts this year. I also hope to return to archives in Leipzig which had more material than expected. I plan to use resources in Philadelphia and additionally, investigate archival sources in Japan. In terms of research outputs, I hope to have published at least one article this year, which I anticipate submitting soon, and I hope to have completed a book proposal.
