| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Completed research progress includes literature review, theoretical framework, research framework, and data collection. Currently, research manuscript is in the progress. Data collection was separated into three relational stages: primary, expand, and follow-up. Primary stage was carried out to gather broad information about migration decision. Building on data from primary stage, expand stage aimed to expand, explain, and justify certain significant factors suggested in the initial findings. In the follow-up stage, in-depth investigation was conducted to follow up on highly influential factors which were found during expand stage. Data collected included interviews and observations from repeating fieldworks in Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Raw data included interviews as followed: 9 unstructured, 49 semi-structured and 407 structured interviews from Burmese workers and key informants in Thailand; 9 unstructured, 45 semi-structured and 404 structured interviews from Cambodian workers and key informants in Thailand; 25 unstructured, 60 semi-structured, and 417 structured interviews from villagers and key informants in sending area in Myanmar; and 19 unstructured, 46 semi-structured, and 314 structured interviews from villagers and key informants in sending area in Cambodia. Findings suggest that the involvement from household members, community practices, community leaders, social perception, and cumulative immigrant networks play vital role influencing migration decision in the cases of Burmese and Cambodian immigrant workers in Thailand.
