Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The main achievements included a presentation on the analysis of four recent Natech accidents in Japan at the IDRiM Virtual Workshop in September, and the publication of a paper based on the analysis of the Natech accident involving an aluminum explosion in Shimobara, Okayama Pref., in 2018, in the Journal of Loss Prevention. Two more manuscripts are under preparation based on this work. A paper, entitled “Extracting Natech Reports from Large Databases: Development of a Semi-Intelligent Natech Identification Framework based on a deep learning methodology developed to identify and extract Natech cases from accident databases” was published in the IJDRS. The paper, entitled “Emerging Natech risk management in Colombia: A survey of governmental organizations”, based on field visits, interviews and a mail survey in Colombia, was published in Safety Science. Furthermore, a book chapter, entitled “Toward Natech Resilient Industries,” was published in the GADRI book series, which introduces the proposed Natech-RateMe framework. Another paper, entitled “A paradigm shift in Natech risk management: Development of a framework for evaluating the performance of industry and enhancing territorial resilience” is currently under review in the Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industries. Finally, in March 2021, we held the 5th International Natech Symposium that brought together more than 100 participants from academia, local, national and international government agencies, industry and residents from 26 countries. Abstract proceedings from the event have been published.
