Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The goal for this year was to sort returned questionnaires, input the data and begin analysing the data. By early May, returned questionnaires had been opened and sorted based on their completeness. Data were inputed by a third-party and was returned in July. As a first step, descriptive analysis was performed using univariate statistics to describe the current status of chid restriant seat use. Initial findings show that back seat seatbelt use by parents and backseat child restraint use on short distance drives is extremely low. These finding were presented at a conference in December.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
Survey: Due to the quantity of surveys, processing and inputing the data has taken longer than intially planned. As such, analysis of the data has been somewhat delayed.
Roadside survey: For consistency, the same 6 observers are needed for both surveys (Spring and Autumn). It has proven extremely difficult to find 6 observers that are able to commit to doing both surveys. This has been an unexpected problem that has led to a further delay in conducting the roadside survey.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2020, an inferential analysis will be performed to establish reasons for use and non-use of child restraint seats. We plan to present and write a paper presenting the findings. Due to the logistical difficulty of coordinating 6 observers for 2 roadside surveys, we are looking to reduce the survey to one time.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The funds will be used for travel to conferences to present findings and for costs associated with conducting the roadside survey.
