Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2019, several changes in the conditions for conducting research hindered the progress of the research itself. Although data collection was completed in 2018, we could not move fully to the phase of data analysis. This was partly due to the PI’s increased amount of work at her institution and partly to a change in the research collaborator’s work environment. The PI and the collaborator planned to meet in person in March 2020 to discuss the papers in progress addressing the data. Unfortunately, it did not happen due to the Covid19 pandemic. The PI was scheduled to make a presentation in a research group but this also had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.
We are now individually working on papers in which we explore the effects of govermentality on the way non-heterosexual women negotiate their everyday life in Japan and in Singapore, as well as their relations with one another. Another paper discussing different aspects of the effects of social conditions in each country on the subjectivity of non-heterosexual women is also on the works.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
As stated in the summery, PI’s increased amount of work at her institution because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the changes in the research collaborator’s work environment became obstacles for the research to move on.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2020, we will continue preparing the data for analysis coding transcripts and conduct qualitative analysis on the prepared data. Follow up interviews may be undertaken during this time to provide additional clarity to the work, if necessary. Once analysis is complete, we will write the final report and present our research findings.
We will have a project meeting either in Japan or Singapore and will again invite Jorge Arditi to provide an additional round of feedback on this project, including feedback of our data analysis. Strategies to expand the research will also be discussed.

Causes of Carryover |
The research trips did not take place because of the Covid19 pandemic.
