Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2020, the Covid19 pandemic continued to hinder the progress of the research itself. However, with the help of an online meeting tool, the PI and the collaborator could have several meetings to discuss their respective progress. We had online meetings in August, November, and January. We completed the list of respondents and explored the effects of governmentality on the way non-heterosexual women negotiate their everyday life in Japan and in Singapore, as well as their relations with one another. Also, we discussed different aspects of the effects of social conditions in each country on the subjectivity of non-heterosexual women. Though we could not make any presentations in academic conferences, we were able to produce a paper titled “Relationships between non-heterosexual women and their families - comparison of cases between Singapore and Japan” in which we discussed how the housing condition of non-heterosexual women in Singapore and Japan create an environment in which they negotiate the manifestation of their sexualities.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
As stated in the summery, although the Covid-19 pandemic continued to hinder the progress of the research, the PI and the collaborator could collaborate remotely and could complete the list of respondents. As a result, we could produce one research paper.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2021, we will continue preparing the data for analysis, coding transcripts, and conduct qualitative analysis of the data. Once the analysis is complete, we will write the final report and present our research findings.
Since, the Covid-19 still create conditions in which the PI and the collaborator are not able to meet in person, we will continue to make use of the online tools and collaborate closely to produce the final report. We will again invite Jorge Arditi to provide an additional round of feedback on this project, including feedback of our data analysis. Strategies to expand the research will also be discussed.

Causes of Carryover |
The Covid-19 pandemic continued to hinder the progress of the research. We were not able to have meeting in person. This year we will use the money for organizing online mtgs and also necessary resources to conclude the research.
