Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2018, I have published a co-authored paper in the Journal of Nagoya Higher Education research. The paper explains how a logical thinking approach is implemented across courses on academic communication skills, hence building a theoretical ground for the reasoning theory through practical experiences. In addition to the paper, I gave an oral presentation titled How Philosophers can Contribute to Teaching Research Writing: A brief introduction to an applied philosophy project at the XXIV World Congress of Philosophy held at Beijing University. The presentation introduced the reasoning project, and showed, using some concrete examples, how philosophers could be indispensable to research writing education. I also published a book titled Healthy Beings.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The research progress is going reasonably smooth. So far I have published a single-authored paper in 2017 on how the reasoning approach can be applied to research writing and a co-authored paper in 2018 on how the reasoning approach can receive wider applications, across courses on academic communication skills. I have also given presentations and talks at International conferences, Hiroshima University, Okayama University, Osaka City University about the reasoning approach for research writing.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
According to the research plan, the primary research goal in 2019 is to show how a logical argument can be built from its conclusion, which is a core hypothesis of the construction theory of reasoning. To accomplish this goal, I need to (i) show how the premises of an argument share some basic elements with the conclusion so that former can be built based on the latter, (ii) build a step-by-step recipe showing how a preliminary conclusion can be built from scratch, and (iii) build a step-by-step recipe showing how the premises for the conclusion can be constructed.

Causes of Carryover |
Two reasons for the incurring amount: First, I did not hire a research assistant that I was planning to hire in 2018. Second, I was planning two oversea conference trips but I only went to one. I am planning to use the money carried over for inviting a specialist on logic studies to give a talk at Nagoya University in 2019.
