Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This year was highly productive for the project. We made the general shift in orientation from data collection to analysis and dissemination of our findings. Several trips to conduct field interviews in Shikoku were undertaken, and survey data was likewise collected by mail. Key points of our research were elucidated separately by the principle researcher and collaborative researcher (Prof. Ian Reader) with presentations given at two pilgrimage studies conferences in Europe. One peer-reviewed paper was published in an international journal. Finally, the initial draft of the monograph covering the entirety of the project was completed.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
We have solicited a one year extension of the grant in order to finalize details in relation to the monograph. Nonetheless, our goals for the project (three journal articles and one book) as outlined in the grant application are on track to be met. The delay requiring the extension was related to several unexpected, but deeply compelling, sources of data. All in all the project is shaping up well.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
All that is required from now it to finalize the book manuscript for publication. This will include any changes required by the reviewers/editors, as well general formatting.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Research-related costs were a little bit less than expected. Likewise, the corona virus reduced the overall number of work hours for our research assistant. The balance of the grant will be used for miscellaneous expenses and for additional work hours for the research assistant.
