| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This fiscal year was a milestone for the project. First and foremost, we completed, submitted, and edited the complete manuscript for the monograph titled, “Pilgrims Until We Die: Unending Pilgrimage in Shikoku” with Oxford University Press (publication: 06/17/21). Second, we published one article in a peer-reviewed journal on these related topics and are currently writing two more chapters for edited volumes. Third, despite difficult conditions during this period, we were also able to give one presentation online for an international research conference for pilgrimage studies.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Although we extended our research period due to some factors related to COVID-19, the net result is we have been able to meet our primary goals and even to pursue publications beyond our initial aims.

In the remaining time left, we will finish the publication of two chapters for edited volumes, as well as pursue potential journal articles on related research topics.

Remaining funds will be used primarily for continued employment of the research assistant.
