Outline of Final Research Achievements

The aim of this study was to shed light on performances by Ichikawa Ebizo V (also known as Ichikawa Danjuro VII), a prominent Edo-period kabuki actor known for the establishment of Kabuki Juhachiban (repertoire of 18 kabuki plays) and the production of the Kanjincho, in the Tokai region (Aichi, Gifu, Mie, and Shizuoka prefectures). The study investigated and researched performances in which Ebizo appeared in the four Tokai prefectures, and enabled clarifying specific details (theaters, lengths of runs, programs, other actors who also performed, etc.) of the performances, as well as attitudes toward them among audience members and connections with theatrical performances in each of the local communities.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
