Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Although in 2020 this research project was unfortunately severely affected by the pandemic, I was able to cover all research aspects set out in the original research plan. Pandemic countermeasures in 2020 forced me to cancel/postpone presentations, publications, and research trips. Therefore, final research results will be published in 2021 on Jelinek’s use of Greek and Latin texts, and on her appropriation of modern philosophical thinkers (3 items in preparation). Both aspects allowed me to shed more light on Jelinek’s ethical and intellectual positions expressed in the theater texts that were analyzed. This question was most important and at the core of the research project. Here, the project contributes original research results to philosophical and intellectual discussions at the heart of Jelinek research in the last decades. I also focused one more time on concepts of “hospitality”, adding to my research of earlier years. In addition, I gained new insights from the comparison of Japanese and European perspectives on “hospitality” and “precariousness”, with the support of two research assistants. At the moment, I am considering the possibilities of publishing a book rather than individual final research result papers.
