Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study employs multimodal conversation analysis (which integrates the analysis of both verbal and nonverbal resources mobilized by participants in interaction) to investigate a type of pointing gesture apparently utilized not for referential purposes. The study particularly focuses on cases where a current speaker points towards his or her recipient while producing a word that the speaker temporally forgets but suddenly remembers after some search. It demonstrates that this type of pointing is utilized as a resource to publicly and visibly claim that the speaker is now remembering the word for the search.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
