| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research is to investigate the usage of learning tools by Japanese language learners in today's highly developed ICT environment and to improve teachers' instructional design literacy based upon the result of that investigation. An online survey of international students at TUFS (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies) was conducted and of learners in overseas universities from six countries/regions (the UK, the Netherlands, Serbia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Egypt), with a total of 609 respondents. The investigation reveals that learners actively use various types of apps and websites. Popular dictionary apps are also critically evaluated concerning their contents and usability. Japanese language teachers are expected to design worthy classroom activities, considering learners' usage of these tools. Teachers are also required to improve their ability to support students' personal (self)-learning design. These conclusions show a key to the future education design.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
アニメや漫画などポップカルチャーの人気とともに、世界の日本語学習者の学習動機や学習目的は多様化している。高度に情報化が進む現代社会では、学習者の使用する学習ツールや学習スタイルにも大きな変化が生じている。学習者の学習ツール使用の実態を把握し、今後の日本語教育における教育設計、教育支援のあり方を提案していくことは、日本語教育分野において、社会的変化に対応した教授法・教材開発等を考えていくためにも必要不可欠である。グローバル化・多文化化の進む現代社会では、日本語学習は社会全体に関わる課題でもあり、また新しい世代の学習者の学習スタイルを知ることは、教育一般に向けても新しい視点をもたらすものとなる。
