Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the second year of the research project, the teaching approach involving Facebook was modified and implemented in two classes (levels A2 and B1). Also, an online survey has been developed and carried out in order to ascertain how learners make use of the social network Facebook for their L2 learning privately. All of the 210 responses retrieved within a one-month period were subjected to a quantitative and qualitative analysis. As the results suggest, for most participants Facebook is a suitable tool for improving their L2 skills, because it enables them to establish or to maintain social contacts with native speakers, and to have authentic opportunities to express themselves in the L2.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
In order to integrate the findings of the survey into the teaching approach and to modify it accordingly, some more time is needed. So, the approach will not be implemented in the first and second term (as originally planned), but in the third and fourth term.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This year the teaching approach developed will be modified again based on the results of the survey carried out last year and the experiences gathered when it was implemented last year. Then it will again be implemented in two classes (level A2 and B1). Also, the results of the survey carried out last year shall serve as a basis to find ways (and develop guidelines and teaching materials) to assist learners who are willing to improve their L2 skills by using social media privately.

Causes of Carryover |
Next year I would like to present my research results at two international conferences, so I would like to carry over the amount.
