Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The design of the project was completed in Spring, 2017, with the aid of Dr. Natsuko Shintani, at the University of Auckland and Dr. Simon Humphries, Kansai University. The materials and instruments were prepared and piloted in Fall 2017. The research instruments consisted of: 1) writing tasks, 2) background questionnaire, 3) flowing questionnaire, and 4) diary prompts. The tasks were piloted in a classroom of 20 students and the appropriate tasks were finalized and selected in Fall, 2017. In March, 2017, the questionnaires were evaluated and discussed with Prof. Rod Ellis, at Curtin University. As a result of this consultation, several new questionnaire items were added. The tasks for this project was presented at the Oman 18th International ELT Conference, on April 28th in Muscat, the country of Oman.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The main study data collection was scheduled to begin April, 2018. However, because Golden Week holidays interfere with classes in late April, data collection will start early May, 2018. The participants have been selected and informed consent has been collected. Currently, questionnaire items are still being translated.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Data collection will take place from May to July, 2018 and continue from October to December, 2018. Together with Simon Humphries and Natsuko Shintani, I intended to analyze the results during Spring, 2019. In Fall 2019, I will disseminate results at one domestic and one international conference. During Fall 2019, Dr. Humphries and Dr. Shintani will help me write two research papers for publication in two academic journals. I will send the research manuscript to peer reviewed journals, such as TESOL Quarterly or Applied Linguistics.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The 125,474円 incurring amount occurred because I overestimated how much material development would cost me. In 2018, I would like to use this for travel expenses. The remaining budget for 2018 will be used on 1) translation, 2) books, 3) traveling to two international conferences, 4) one domestic conference, 5) and online survey tool subscription.
