| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
本研究課題は、日本語を母語とする学習者による英語の冠詞と可算・不可算名詞の区別の習得について明らかにすることを目標としている。先行研究では、日本人学習者はこれらの文法的要素の習得が難しく、上級者でも母語話者と差異のなく使用・解釈することが難しいことが報告されている。平成29年度は、本研究課題を検証するための実験を作成し、一部の調査対象者に対し実験を行なった。実験は主に、心理学実験ソフトSuperLabを用い、被験者の文の読み時間や回答選択に要する時間も測定する「自己ペース読文タスク」と、被験者が冠詞と可算・不可算名詞の正用と誤用が正しく判断できるかどうかを調査する「文法性判断テスト」から構成される。本実験では、文法性判断タスクにおいては、被験者の英語の冠詞や可算・不可算名詞の区別に対する言語知識、そして「自己ペース読文タスク」においては、被験者の冠詞や可算・不可算名詞の処理過程を調査する。この実験は、実験群として日本語を母語とする英語学習者に参加していただくのに加え、統制群として英語母語話者にも参加していただく予定である。二つの被験者グループの結果を比較し、両者の間に違いがあるかどうかを、言語知識と言語処理の両方の観点から検証する。
平成29年度は、上記の実験の作成に加え、まず統制群を対象に調査を行なった。University of Swansea、もしくは University of Greenwichに在籍するイギリス在住の英語母語話者25名の被験者に参加をしていただき、調査を行なった。H30年度には、H29年度に収集した結果の分析と、実験群を対象とした調査を行う。実験群は、中級、または上級英語学習者と英語圏長期滞在経験者の３グループを対象に行う予定である。

Reason
Though we managed to test 25 native speaker controls, we hope to obtain more native speaker control judgements. This means we need to plan another trip in order to collect more judgements.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We hope to make a trip either to the UK or US sometime during this academic year to collect further data from native speaker controls. We also plan to start testing Japanese L2 learners of English in Japan this academic year.

| Causes of Carryover |
Due to a delay in preparation, we were unable to conduct testing during the summer. We plan to do further testing this year in the UK or the US.
