| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
本研究は、第二言語学習者による英語の冠詞と可算／不可算名詞の区別の習得ついて明らかにすることを目標としている。特に、英語を第二言語として習得する日本語母語話者とスペイン語母語話者を対象に、冠詞と可算／不可算名詞の言語知識と言語処理の両方に焦点を当て、調査を行う。日本語母語話者にとって英語の冠詞や可算／不可算名詞の区別は習得が難しいとされているが、日本語母語話者とスペイン語母語話者を比べることにより、学習者の母語文法がどのように名詞句の解釈に影響を及ぼすのかを検証する。2018年から2019年にかけて、英語母語話者、日本語母語話者、スペイン語母語話者を対象に調査を行った。2020年度はコロナウィルス感染症の影響により、調査の実施を一時中断したが、その時点までに収集したデータを統計分析し、日本第二言語習得学会 2020年度大会にて日本語・スペイン語母語話者の冠詞の知識と文処理に関する結果を報告した。2021年度には、言語科学会第22回国際年次大会にて英語学習者の可算／不可算名詞の知識と文処理に関する調査結果を報告する予定である。これまでに収集したデータにおいて、英語母語話者とスペイン語を母語とする上級レベルの英語学習者のデータが不足しているため、2021年度はオンラインテストを用い、イギリスやスペインに在住者を対象に、さらにデータ収集を継続する予定である。

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The slight delay is due to the current status of the pandemic in Japan and around the world. Not be able to travel to collect data abroad is the main reason for the delay.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We will present our count - mass findings at the upcoming JSLS conference. We wrote a short conference paper for the JSLS conference book. We plan on writing a longer version of the short paper and submit it to a journal, such as Second Language Research. We also plan to write a paper on definites for the Journal on Second Language Studies, an invited submission. We also hope to submit an abstract to the BUCLD conference 2021.

| Causes of Carryover |
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we were unable to travel abroad to conduct further data collection and to attend conferences. We are going to collect data online and present out findings at virtual conferences.
