Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
- Organized research team: In addition to main researchers, we gathered more than 10 research supporters. - Questionnaire construction: We made progress creating a questionnaire to measure language and culture resistance. We 1) got input on student attitudes toward language learning from approximately 80 language teachers, 2) defined questionnaire constructs, 3) created a list of questionnaire items, and 4) received expert feedback on both the constructs and items. - Research meetings: We held regular research meetings through Skype and in person. - Research workshops: We held two research workshop which gathered research supporters to participate in the construction of the instrument. Publicizing research: Members of the research team gave 7 workshops or presentations to publicize the research.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
We found a high level of interest in this research project. This has allowed us to gather more than 10 research supporters who provide expert feedback and will help in the gathering of data. The process of defining instrument constructs, and producing instrument items has gone smoothly, and we are ready to begin testing the instrument items, and then test the instrument.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
- Questionnaire construction: We are currently finalizing the first version of the questionnaire--to be finished by June. In June-July we will receive expert feedback on the items, and gather a first batch of data before the end of the spring semester. This will allow us to begin factor analysis of instrument items this summer, and have a second version of the instrument ready for the fall semester. - Research group meetings: We have scheduled once-monthly research group meetings for teachers interested in this project. Currently, meetings are planned for the first Friday of June, July, September and October. - Data gathering: We will start gathering larger amounts of data in the fall semester. - Teacher attitude survey: We will start working on a second instrument to test teacher attitudes towards student resistance.

Causes of Carryover |
Expenses for this year will be spent on travel for research members to go attend research meetings and conferences. We will also use funding for software for statistical analysis. We will also spend money to have someone help us do data entry and data analysis.
