Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the past year, I was able to add the finishing touches to this project which had been extended for three years due to Covid. In June I made an online conference presentation to the European Union Studies Association-Asia Pacific entitled 'Do the Europarties offer solutions to the challenges of democracy building at the EU-level? Potentially Yes…But…'. I spent the summer months turning the presentation into an academic paper drawing upon feedback from the conference. The paper was accepted by the referees after some additional work and published as the lead article in the Asia-Pacific Journal of EU Studies in December 2022.
I was able to attend the PES Europarty Congress in Berlin (October). In March 2023 I returned to the International Institute of Social History based in Amsterdam in order to undertake some archival research on the post-WWII origins of the European project. In addition, I undertake a couple of interviews with experts on the state of European-level and national-level party politics.
