Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In AY 2020, I published a working paper, "Dynamic Factor Adjustment and Corporate Tax Reduction in the Japanese Manufacturing Industry" in the Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy. The study shows that a tax reduction as an incentive to firms for raising wage turns out to boost not only capital investment but also employment. I also drafted out a couple of working papers: "Temporal changes in factor adjustment of the Japanese manufacturing industry” and “Decomposition of Productivity Growth and its Determinant Factors for Japanese Manufacturing Firms.”To disseminate my research outcomes, I participated in five academic conferences to present my three research papers. All these presentations were held virtually due to Covid-19.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I am working on a dynamic model to analyze the impacts of macro policy on TFP growth that was supposed to be done in FY 2017-2018 according to my Disbursement Application Form. I have pursued this research in FY 2018-2020, instead. In FY 2020, I wrote one working paper about dynamic factor models to investigate dynamic factor adjustment for the Japanese manufacturing industry. I also wrote another paper about determinant factors about decomposed productivity growth for the Japanese manufacturing industry. Considering that I have published five papers in peer-reviewed academic journals and drafted out two working papers so far, my research is progressing much faster than initially planned.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In FY 2021, I will try to revise two working papers that I drafted out in FY 2020 in order to submit to academic journals for possible publication. Further, I will work on research that adopts a new model that incorporates more flexible assumption on factor adjustment and applies a dynamic model that I used previously to a new dataset.

Causes of Carryover |
In FY 2020, I participated in five academic conferences to present my three research papers. However, all these presentations were held virtually due to Covid-19. So, I could save budget allocated to research trip that amounts to 246,332 yen. I will use the remaining budget to pay open access fee, buy books and a software program instead. Publishing open access will increase the publicity of my research outputs. Books will help to better understand the world and Japanese economy after the pandemic. A computer program will help me to better estimate my econometric models.
