Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The overall purpose of the study is to develop and validate a psychometrically valid scale that measures the concept of layered cultural influences. With the pandemic, sampling and data collection were limited this year again. Nonetheless, the project has shifted into a qualitative inquiry that entails more in-person interviews and focus group interviews in several industries. The work entails more refinements of scale items and cross-validating in two additional languages besides English and Japanese.

Reason
The delay has been mainly due to the inaccessibility to the data collection site, and to the changes with the work environment.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This academic year, more efforts will be expended to include data collection at a few more companies where Japanese nationals work with foreign workers in Japan, and local workers with foreign workers in other cultural contexts especially given the continuing pandemic.

Causes of Carryover |
The main reason is that because of the incomplete data collection and analyses from the previous years and this year.
