Outline of Final Research Achievements

We developed Japanese versions of the 33-item Hypomania Checklist (HCL-33) and the Hypomania Checklist External Assessment (HCL-33EA) and examined their validity in screening patients with bipolar disorder.
The HCL-33 and HCL-33EA showed high internal consistency and moderate accuracy in distinguishing patients with bipolar disorder from those with major depressive disorder. The Japanese versions of HCL-33 and HCL-33EA are useful tools for screening for BD in depressed Japanese patients.
Combining HCL-33 and HCL-33EA according to the clinical situation is expected to further increase their usefulness.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

双極性障害の患者は抑うつ症状を主訴に受診することが多く、軽躁症状は自覚されにくいことから、治療開始当初はうつ病として治療されることが多い。これは症状の遷延や躁転のリスクを高め、予後不良や社会機能の低下をもたらす。双極性障害を早期にスクリーニングし、適切な治療を行うことは、双極性障害による自殺を防ぎ、社会的な予後を改善し、個人的、社会的な損失を減らすためにも重要である。
本研究で日本語版を作成し、その有用性を確認したHCL-33とHCL-33EAは簡単に実施できる尺度であることから、日常の精神科臨床において、気分障害における双極性障害のスクリーニングに役立てることができる。
