Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examined the common-sense views of DV supporters and the public on DV. The results showed that college students had images of perpetrators as having alcohol dependence and mental problems, and that perpetrators had difficulty controlling the DV situation. The image of victims as being able to control the situation was shown. These results suggested the risk of giving advice that would distance oneself from the empathy and understanding of the victim’s feelings. On the other hand, supporters had different values from the general common sense on DV, and felt that they were necessary for victim support.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究ではDV支援者や世間がもつDVに関する常識的見解について検討を行った。本研究の知見を活かすことで二次被害の予防につながると考えられる。これまでの研究から、DVサバイバーは世間の常識的な見解からの言動に傷ついてきたことが明らかになっている。常識的な見解からのものであるため、言動をした者も自覚しづらく、悪気がないことが分かるためDVサバイバーも苦痛を訴えられないという悪循環が生じていると考えられる。これは二次被害の側面があったとしても目を向けられていないということである。この現状を変える一助に本研究は貢献しうると考えられる。
