Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research project continued to progress relatively smoothly. Videos for flipped learning in pedagogy classes were completed and students were able to view the videos in regular classes. Observations of students' performance in class and conversations with students suggested the flipped learning approach was successful in increasing their confidence and motivation to participate actively in class. Unfortunately, however, due to the small numbers of students, it was difficult to conduct empirical research into the effects of flipped learning on students' motivation. However, after conducting presentations, attending conferences, and talking to numerous researchers of motivation, a clearer image of how to design the study in the third year was gained. Therefore, in the final year of the study, the research will concentrate on getting more qualitative data through regular study diaries and interviews with students about the effects of flipped learning on their attitudes and confidence in class.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Although the data has not been collected as had been initially planned, the study has been redesigned to obtain more useful findings. All videos to be used in the research project have been created earlier than expected. The main study, therefore, will be conducted in the third year of the project, with a concentration on the Growth and Fixed Mindsets and the flipped learning approach.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The third year of the research project will involve collection of qualitative data through study diaries and interviews. Comparisons will be held among students studying language pedagogy under the flipped learning method and those studying under a traditional approach. The results of the study will be presented at conferences in the latter half of the year in order to get feedback and advice on analyses and possible reasons behind the findings.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Because the data was not able to be obtained as planned, presentation of results will be conducted in the third year of the study. The remaining funding will be used to purchase qualitative data analysis software and other materials required for data analysis and travel expenses to present the findings.
