Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this study was to develop and examine an evaluation method to specifically observe children's learning process and to apply it to instruction in the teaching of the letters of the alphabet in elementary school English education. As there is a large disparity in the ability in understanding the alphabet, phonemic awareness and phonics, and learning to spell the letters of the English alphabet, careful instruction is required. Therefore, based on the theory and practice of Miscue Analysis in Whole Language approach and Reading Recovery, which carefully assesses children's language development, this study was designed to evaluate the development of language development in children. The study materials (booklets) were prepared and proposed as systematical teaching and support in elementary school foreign language activities and foreign language studies in Japan.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
