Outline of Final Research Achievements

(1) Case studies: Several cases of serious suicide-related behaviors were shared by the research team. It was suggested that the nature of autism spectrum disorder and suicide-related behaviors may be related to all of the so-called triplets, and that chronic poor group and social adjustment, lack of family understanding, strong anxiety about the future, panic, and impulsivity may also be involved.
(2) Quantitative survey using a questionnaire: 1,000 university students were asked to answer questions (suicide attempts, suicidal ideation, self-injurious behavior, etc.) based on the AQ-10-J, ASRS, and the American College Student Assessment (ACHA-NCHA) through a web-based questionnaire survey. Those who reported each suicide-related behavior had a significantly higher index of developmental disability.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究の簡易的な心理的剖検の結果から，自閉スペクトラム症（ASD）などの発達障害がある大学生が自殺に至るプロセスには，社会的あるいは対人コミュニケーションの場面での独特な認知と行動パターンが関与し，さらには慢性的な社会適応不全などによる二次的なダメージも関係していることが示された．また質問紙調査による量的検討では，自殺関連行動（自殺企図，自殺念慮，自傷行為）とASDや注意欠如多動症傾向との有意な関係が示された．高止まりを続ける若者の自殺対策を考える上では，一般的な心理教育やロールプレイに加えて，傾向まで含めると10%の頻度とも言われる発達障害の存在やその性質に注目することが重要と示唆された．
