Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I collected 225 samples from Site C0023 and carried out a first series of rock magnetic measurements. Preliminary results were discussed with European collaborators and presented in two international conferences, at the Goldschmidt conference in Paris and at the AGU Fall meeting in New Orleans. Data on organic matter maturity were acquired by collaborators and shared with me. This allowed to test one hypothesis for magnetic mineral diagenesis. About 200 samples were later collected from nearby sites (Sites 808 and 1174) to be studied next year.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Rock magnetic data and organic matter analyses were carried out during the year. Inorganic geochemical analyses (collaborators) are ongoing. The rock magnetic results obtained during this year need to be supported by new measurement protocols and new algorithm.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Detailed rock magnetic measurements will be carried out on selected samples from Site C0023. This will be done at the Australian National University in August 2018 in collaboration with the local researchers. A paper would be likely submitted after this visit. Inorganic geochemical data will be available. I'll participate to the postcruise meeting related to this expedition. I'll discuss with my collaborators and other scientists working on the same site. We'll plan for submitting papers. Rock magnetic measurements will be acquired on one of the nearby site. Comparison between this site and Site C0023 will be done.

Causes of Carryover |
This amount will be used to buy computer license for specialized softwares (one fiscal year later than originally planned). A part of this amount will be used for a research visit to Australia for conducting magnetic measurements in a laboratory (not possible to be carried out in Japan).
