Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We investigated the cytoplasmic structures of bathyal benthic foraminifera, particularly focusing on vacuoles and surrounding ultrastructure. Two deep-infaunal species, which thrive below oxygen penetration depths, have unique cytoplasmic structures, while shallow infaunal species represent similar structures. The unique structures may have some links with their adaptative ecology in dysoxic environments, and further researches are ongoing in terms of functional and genetic traits.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
