Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The research presented here aimed to develop the earthworms Eisenia fetida Waki and E. andrei Sagami as next-generation animal protein production hosts. Although the transformation rate of our previously developed method was low, we have succeeded to improve the rate up to 48%. In addition, human erythropoietin was detected in transformed earthworm tail fragments by ELISA. These results might contribute to the development of a novel earthworms-based animal protein production system.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
