Outline of Final Research Achievements

Development of new treatment needs animal models with the disease background. Various diseases such as arteriosclerosis cause severe lower limb ischemia. Cell therapy has been researched for severe lower limb ischemia. Little has been reported on cell therapy for animal models with the disease background. Although it has been reported on heart and aorta for arteriosclerosis models, little has been reported on lower limbs. In this study, blood vessels in the lower limbs were analyzed for arteriosclerosis models.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

様々な背景疾患により引き起こされる重症下肢虚血に対しては、細胞移植治療が研究開発され、臨床研究も行われているが、治療効果は限定的である。その理由の一つは、患者の背景疾患を反映した動物モデルが存在しないためである。そのため、動物モデルでは治療効果が観察されるが、実臨床では治療効果が限定的となると考えられる。本研究は、これまでよりも、患者の背景疾患を反映した動物モデルの作製を目指した研究であり、この動物モデルを利用することで、これまでよりも治療効果の高い治療法の開発に寄与することが期待される。
