Outline of Final Research Achievements

The aim of this study was to develop an educational programme to improve ward nurses' ability to prevent medical accidents. To achieve this aim, the following steps were undertaken: 1) Identification of issues related to patient education that arise in hospital wards, as well as the characteristics of ward nurses' patient education skills; 2) Based on the results from step 1, previous research, and a literature review, an 'education programme to support the improvement of ward nurses' patient education skills' was developed; 3) The developed education programme was implemented. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the created education programme.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究の学術的意義は、先行研究の成果である病棟看護師が直面する患者教育に関わる問題と患者教育を展開する能力に関係する病棟看護師の特性を基盤に「病棟看護職者個々の医療事故防止能力向上を実現する教育プログラム」を開発したことである。本プログラムを用いた病棟看護師への教育の提供は、科学的根拠に基づく院内教育の提供、につながる。また、その成果は、病棟看護師の患者教育を展開する能力の向上とともに、効果的な患者教育につながることが期待できるという社会的意義がある。
