Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project was designed to evaluate the learner’s competency acquisition by utilizing an educational program to support new graduate nurses transitioning to neonatal intensive care unit (TSP-NICU). A total of eight new gradate nurses (learners) and 43 senior nurses(instructors) participated with no attrition. The learners’ perceptions of the program was positive overall. Varying anxiety levels were reported pointing to the sense of limited abilities, challenging family/patient encounters, stress of daily learning clinically, and relationship building with the superiors. The completion of the program led statistically significant increase in scores related to professional role awareness, knowledge, and perceptions (p<.01). The learners attained the competency of“Able to perform under supervision”for 80% of the 128 essential items to be acquired.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
