Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Although I was on maternity leave, I produced several pieces.
I was invited to do a presentation for the following symposium: "Kyushu University Global Peace Symposium : Nagasaki to be the Last Place". The symposium commemorated Nagasaki after 75 years, and centered around the talk of a bomb survivor.
I also presented for the East Asian Popular Culture Conference. I was invited by Tristan R. Grunow (Yale University) for a panel called "Pacific War Memory and the Politics of Representation in Postwar Japanese Popular Culture".
Finally, I was invited by Lester R. Kurtz to write a chapter on "nuclear war" for his publication: "Encyclopedia of Violence, Peace, and Conflict", 3rd Edition (published by Elsevier).

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

4: Progress in research has been delayed.

Reason

Two reasons greatly delayed my planned work: I was on maternity leave, then the virus prevented me from organizing a conference as I had planned.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

Instead of organizing a conference, I am planing to travel nationally, to Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Fukushima, and Tokyo to see nuclear-related museums or places. For example, I wish to visit the Maruki Gallery in Tokyo where are exhibited the Hiroshima Panels. This would help me access more information about the artists and their work.

Causes of Carryover

I was on maternity leave, and I plan to use the budget for travel businesses, to visit Hiroshima, Nagasaki and other places with related-nuclear history.
