Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
1. I finished the project "An Entry Game with Learning and Market Competition" with Junichiro Ishida and Arjit Mukherjee. Our model features both private learning about the market condition and market competition, which give rise to the first-mover and second-mover advantages in a unified framework. We characterize symmetric Markov perfect equilibria and identify a necessary and sufficient condition for the first-mover advantage to dominate. We also derive equilibrium payoff bounds to show that pioneering entry is generally payoff-enhancing, even though it is driven by preemption motives, and discuss efficiency properties of entry dynamics. 2.“Hierarchical Experimentation,” with Junichiro Ishida is published at Journal of Economic Theory.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
My coauthors and I presented "An Entry Game with Learning and Market Competition" in seminars, workshops, and conferences in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, and Canada in the past year. We received good comments, which helped us substantially improve the paper.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I started a new project "Signaling with Risky Experimentation" with Junichiro Ishida and Wing Suen. This work incorporates signaling into innovation process to investigate how incentives to signal one's ability affect the choices of projects and persistence in experimentation.
