Outline of Final Research Achievements |
I estimated crowding cost of morning train commute in Tokyo. Estimates show that there is little crowding cost when crowding is light, such as 4 passengers per meter squares. However, as crowding increase from 4/meter square, crowding cost increase more than proportionately. In particular, elder commuters suffer larger crowding cost. When a person ride crowded train, a person suffer from crowding, but other commuters are also suffered from a person’s ride because it makes crowding a bit more severe (negative externality). From our estimates, when crowding is severe enough, how much more other commuters suffer from a person’s ride almost doubles how much a person suffers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
