Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first year of this project, background research progressed as expected and fieldwork was carried out. Some early research results were presented at an international workshop: "Japan's Right-wing YouTubers: Finding a Niche in an Environment of Increased Censorship" Presented at the International Workshop for Hate Speech in Asia and Europe, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, January 18, 2018.The conference paper was later revised and submitted to a journal, and was under review at the time of this report. Some research results on American internet activism have been summarized into a paper, which has been submitted as a book chapter. It was under review with an academic publisher in the United States at the time of this report.

|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Fieldwork will continue, adding interviews with research subjects in Japan and the United States.
It is hoped that preliminary results can be presented at overseas conferences in 2018/2019.There are also plans to reach out to publishers about the possibility of having research results published in English as book chapters, or as a full book.
An additional article is being prepared in English for an international journal.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Funds will be used for fieldwork that could not be carried out in the previous year, due to unforeseen time restrictions.
