2018 Fiscal Year Research-status Report

Carbon Xerogel based Hole Transport Layer for Hybrid Halide Perovskite solar cell

Research Project

Project/Area Number 17K14551
Research InstitutionOkinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University

Principal Investigator

フアレス・ペレス エミリオ  沖縄科学技術大学院大学, エネルギー材料と表面科学ユニット, 研究員 (10792020)

Project Period (FY) 2017-04-01 – 2020-03-31
KeywordsSemiconductor Devices
Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The project consist of four (4) work packages (WP-A,B,C and D). This final year C and D.
C) Assembly of PVK based solar cells using CX based HTL and photovoltaic characterization. COMPLETED. This work-package was a large time consuming step because we lack of experience to assembly this kind of device. We found a recurrent problem where the devices had shorted electrodes in spite that we followed assembly procedures reported in literature. There were doubts if failed device origin became from our device assembly procedure or the novel xerogel based ink used (or both). We meet in HOPV2018 and collaborate during the 2018 Summer with a specialist in this kind of device which kindly used our carbon based HTM ink. The expert carried out a test abroad using 4 different inks based in our carbon xerogel formulation. The devices reported 0.5 to 1 % of efficiency compared with a blank device reporting 7% of power conversion efficiency and using commercial carbon paste. D) Long term stability measurements of photovoltaic cells at maximum power point. COMPLETED. Because the lack of minimal efficient devices, the long term stability test in these devices was discarded and we focused in general chemical stability of perovskite embedded in carbon porous layers. Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

4: Progress in research has been delayed.

Reason

Problems with the preparation of highly conductive CX layer and not feasible assembly of devices at OIST.
Principal Investigator moving from OIST to abroad institution in Spain.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

Long term stability measurements of photovoltaic cells at maximum power point.
Further experiments using free CX carbon electrodes are being analyzed in MPP working conditions.
