2018年7月の当大学医学部倫理委員会承認後、当科に入院・外来通院した高齢者患者においてインフォームドコンセントを得られた65歳以上の170名の患者を対象とした臨床研究をまとめた。その結果、低栄養状態が30日及び90日の死亡率のリスクになり（共にP<0.05）、90日の死亡には上気道防御反射が有力な危険因子である（P<0.05）ことを2019年度の日本老年学会総会、及び論文で発表した（Ebihara T, Miyamoto T and Kozaki K. Prognostic factors of 90-day mortality in older people with healthcare-associated pneumonia. Geriatr Gerontol Int. 2020 Sept 14; 20(11): 1036-1043）。更に、病型による肺炎発症について、現在論文作成中である。
