Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
A preliminary corpus (text database) of ODA project documents and policy memos has been compiled and has been utilized in a corpus assisted discourse analytic study. Availability and quality issues still present challenges for more robust and systematic analyses, but a proof of concept has been achieved by completing an analysis of OECD documents representing Japanese official development aid (ODA) policy throughout history. The main outputs of the research project were one peer-reviewed research presentation at an international conference, and the submission of a manuscript to be published as a background paper for the JICA Research Institute, as part of the JICA-RI Research Project on the History of ODA. Continued research projects are in place to add comparative dimensions (across time and in other countries) to expand the potential of corpus analytic studies of public documentation. Maemura, Y.
