Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This research aims to understand the factors that enable households' decision to put their remittance money into productive investments. For the purpose, the research makes use of primary data collected through household survey in the peri-urban area of Chitwan district in Nepal. The first phase of field visit was done in September-October 2017, during which a total of 346 households were interviewed. This was followed by data cleaning, entry, and analysis. The results have been presented in international conferences and submitted for publications as follows: A paper entitled 'Food basket of a highly marginalized indigenous community in the mid-hills of Nepal: Transition and responsible factors' was presented at the 30th International Conference of Agricultural Economists held from July 28 to August 2, 2018 in Vancouver, Canada. A book chapter entitled 'Dynamics of food basket composition among marginalized communities: A special reference to Chepangs' is forthcoming, set to be published in May, 2019. Currently, a follow-up field visit is being planned for the current fiscal year.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The second phase of field visit is planned for this fiscal year. The field visit will be conducted for two major purposes. The first is to collect supplementary data to add to the data collected in 2017. The second purpose is to communicate the major research findings to various stakeholders including both the respondents at the grassroots and the policy makers at local and district level. Separate workshops will be organized for the purpose. Data analysis and results dissemination via presentations and publications will continue as usual.
