Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
To date the research project has gone as planned. I was unable to attend one conference due to the typhoon that hit Kansai International Airport. Otherwise things have continued smoothly. After collecting and analyzing data in FY 2017, I completed 3 papers based on the results of the survey. The first paper, "Disentangling the Relationship Between Socio and Egotropic Trade Attitudes: A Survey Experiment in Japan," was presented at the Pacific International Politics Conference in Hong Kong in July 2018 and submitted for peer review at an internationally recognized journal. The article received a revise and resubmit which was submitted March 31, 2019. The second paper, "Leadership Credibility and Support for US Foreign Policy: Experimental Evidence from Japan," was presented at the American Political Science Association in Boston in August 2018 and was submitted for peer review at an internationally recognized journal. The third article, "Culture and the Self: The Effect of Self-Construal on Attitudes Toward Trade Liberalization," was scheduled to be presented at the International Studies Association in Los Angeles in September 2018. Unfortunately, I missed this conference due to the typhoon. The paper has been accepted for 2019 Pacific International Politics Conference in Taipei in July 2019 and will be submitted for peer review following the conference.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The only hold up to the progress of the research has been the long peer-review process which is anticipated at competitive international journals and the weather that impacted travel from the Kansai region last fall.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Plans for FY2019 include completing revisions to move the first 2 articles through the the publication process. To present the third article at the Pacific International Politics Conference in July. Complete and submit 3rd article from the research plan for publication.
|
Causes of Carryover |
I was unable to spend the specified amount as I was forced to cancel a conference presentation due to the typhoon that hit Kansai International Airport in September 2018. I will use the money to present the results of the research at the Pacific International Politics Conference in Taipei in July 2019.
