Outline of Final Research Achievements

I ｗrote two articles on Prof. Chie NAKANE, a leading social anthropologist and famous for her popular book on Japanese society. One in English and the other in Japanese. The English one was submitted to Japanese Review of Cultural Anthropology and is now under referee reading. The Japanese one will come out in October in a book published by Kyoto University Press.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

『タテ社会の人間関係：単一社会の理論』は、半世紀にわたってコンスタントに売上を伸ばし続け、現在までに117万部に達する。同書はコンパクトで読みやすく、論述と分析は明快であり、日本人の自画像・自己意識の形成に大きな影響を与えた。
しかし同氏に関する研究は皆無である。拙稿は、数回にわたるインタビューや文献資料、直接に指導を受けた学生としての私自身の経験や記憶から、中根氏のオリジナルな発想と分析が可能になる同氏の知的形成の過程と背景を考察した。また同書が学術界のみならず、官僚、ビジネスマン、市民らに広く受け入れられ影響を及ぼした理由を明らかにした点に学術的・社会的意義がある。
