Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Drawing on Daoist yin/yang dialectics and the theory of qi that stress non-dual ontological parity and inter-connectedness, this project is a preliminary attempt to explore why and how East Asian medical thought and practice can facilitate alternative ways of thinking, doing, being, and relating in East Asian conflict transformations through restoring balance to the East Asian "body". During the overseas research period, a research workshop was held at Ryukoku in Jun 2019 and a research-in-progress presentation was given at the New School in Feb 2020.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The project has been making steady progress so far. I was able to conduct my research and writing in my host institution effectively and benefit from academic exchanges with researchers there. I organized a research-in-progress workshop back at Ryukoku in June 2019. I proposed a special issue to the journal Third World Quarterly in Feb 2020 and the proposal was accepted in Apr 2020. In addition, I published a co-authored book (Routledge), a co-authored journal article (Cambridge Review of International Studies), a bibliographic resource (Oxford University Press), and an online commentary (E-IR) in AY2019 as side projects.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
AY 2020 is the last phase of this project and the primary task is to publish research findings. I and other project members are currently working on a journal special issue which contains 10 articles. The manuscripts will be ready for external peer review in Aug 2020 and hopefully approved for publication by Jan 2021. The special issue will form the basis of an edited volume and I will look for a suitable international publisher towards the end of AY2020.
