Research Abstract

本研究「電荷揺らぎに由来する強相関量子相の研究」では,電子やイオンの電荷揺らぎ-電気四極子-を観測できる超音波計測を駆使し、希土類化合物の局在4f電子の四極子効果、カゴ状化合物の局所振動のラットリング、シリコン結晶の原子空孔軌道の研究を進めてきた。
非クラマース2重項Γ_3基底をもつPrMg_3の弾性定数(C_<11>-C_<12>)/2が示すソフト化と25Kで極小は四極子感受率では説明できず,2重項(Γ_3)と第一励3重項(Γ_4)による擬5重項の電気16極子を含めた多極子感受率により説明した。さらに、PrMg_3に500mK以下でPrMg_3の(C_<11>-C_<12>)/2における超音波分散を見いだし,非クラマース2重項の四極子が格子振動と結合したバイブロニック状態-散逸量子状態-を形成していることを示した。低温では格子結合による擬近藤一重項が実現していると結論し,従来からの四極近藤効果とは異なるシナリオを提起した。
カゴ状化合物のPr_3Pd_<20>Ge_6の弾性定数にソフト化を観測し,II相は8cサイトのΓ_3二重項による反強四極子秩序相であり,III相(T<T_<Q2>)は4aサイトのΓ_5三重項による強四極子秩序相と結論した。さらに、横波超音波C_<44>モードに,低温15K付近とより高温の25K付近にラットリングによる2つの超音波分散を見いだした。さらに充填スクッテルダイトの強磁性NdOs_4Sb_<12>、磁場に鈍感な重い電子系SmOs_4Sb_<12>にも2つの超音波分散を観測し,ラットリングの起源についての新しい知見を加えた。
シリコン原子空孔の周りには共有結合起源のダングリングボンドによる原子空孔軌道が形成され,その軌道半径は約10Aと大きく広がっている。軌道半径の2乗に比例して増大する電気四極子は巨大化し,超音波歪みとの結合定数は極めて大きくなることに着目し、ボロン添加FZシリコンの縦波弾性定数C_<L[111]>=C_B+(4/3)C_<44>および横波弾性定数C_<44>の磁場のソフト化と磁場方向に対する異方性の実験を進め、原子空孔軌道の基底が四重項Γ_8であることを示した。
